I went running the other night, as I've done several times before on the Trolly Trail from Brookside to the Plaza and back. There were several other runners and walkers out. The weather was great. Consistent with every other run on the Trolly Trail I've done, despite the time of year, I've noticed that the girls rarely if ever make eye contact with guys. They look down or glance off to the side. Why is this?
When I run I'm in a great mood and very friendly. I often acknowledge the on coming person (regardless of age or gender) through eye contact and maybe a head nod. If it's a cute girl she'll probably also get a smile. A smile that goes without notice because the girls don't even glance up at the other persons face for a second. It's eye straight ahead or down on the ground.
Why do girls do this? Is it just a girl thing? Is it intimidating for girls to acknowledge a guy while running? If you're a girl runner, please let me know what is going on here.
Now, I have passed a few girls who do make eye contact and smile back. There's at least those 2 girls who don't feel the same way as all the others. Just wondering what the others are thinking.

Sometimes I won't look at people that I think are running faster than me. I don't know why...I just do.
HOWEVER - I make it a point to look at most men in the eye because I want them to know that I will remember their face should they try to attack me while I'm out running alone.
But, for you Craig, I would run up to you and give you a big goofy hug!
